I see teachers and economists as forms of detectives. Teachers for the reason that they have to figure out how each child learns. If what they try first doesn't work, they have to find something that will by using what they know from the student. Economist because they are the ones who will get us out of the recession and to do that they will have to look at thousands of past trends and combine those with theories that may or may not help.
