gritty hot headed special victim’s detective who represents the
conservative/father-like ideologies of the show.
I think detectives and their shows are so popular because of
the suspense. Detective shows unlike any other keep the viewer in suspense of
what’s coming next. We feel more connected and active when were using our own
intellect in order to solve the mysteries we’re watching. Detective shows make
us feel like we are a part of the mysteries.
Detectives themselves are popular because they are usually
virtuous people with a great sense of justice who are even willing to go
outside the law in order to achieve justice. Intelligence is always attractive
which is why viewers gravitate to Dr. Reid. And people can identify with a the
father in Elliot Stabler who has seen too much sexual abuse and has daughters
of his own which amplifies his resolve to catch the bad guy.
