Both characters are a bit different. House is a borderline genius medical practitioner who is nearly insane. He needs a puzzle, he needs to be able to deduce things, or he becomes bored and begins to torture his staff.
Odd Thomas is a 20 year old grille cook who can see the dead. The dead bring their issues to Odd and he helps them. In the opening pages of the first novel, Odd helps to capture the killer of a local girl.
