In the story Merlin, Uther takes action to save his own son life. This action Uther takes makes him a hero. In his role he may come across as a rude and careless man, but when he takes his life to save his son life, shows how someone can become a hero. Uther is convinced that he will die and takes the place of Arthur in a battle to the death with the Black Knight. Uther believed whoever fought the knight next would die and he didn't want his son Arthur to die fighting the knight. This action makes for a great hero, because whoever sacrifices their life for their kingdom or in this case for their son shows a characteristic of a hero.
In the episode of Supernatural, Sam and Dean find all the missing women trapped in cages and both Sam and Dean try to free them. The girls warned the boys of the dragon and the boys would be facing a dragon but to their surprise they fight a dragon in human form. What makes Sam and Dean a hero is their courage to fight the dragon and save the girls. Even though the girls warned the boys of the dragon, the boys took the challenge and fought to save the girl.
