Who are knights today

I think that knights are anyone that stands up what is right and does everything they can to protect his country and people he cares about. I think that soldiers could be an equivalent of a knight, today. They are defending our country and will are prepared to fight anyone that challenges them, even if that means death. Soldiers may not joust or have horses, but they still fight. They have chosen to defend their country very similarly to knights. I use the term "he" loosely because the idea of knights being males, has evolved. Today, the equivalent of a knight could also be female. Characteristics of a knight is not limited to one gender.
