There are definite examples from the class viewings of various people becoming heroes, the first of which comes to mind is Merlin. Merlin finds himself in a situation where he must go above and beyond the call of duty if he is to help in the way which he wants. His actions belie those of someone who cares more about the life of a friend than of rules, consequences, and possibly even his own livelihood. He seemingly trespasses into libraries to which he does not have access searching for a way that Prince Arthur can defeat the black knight, before settling upon the decision to have an already tremendous blade fortified by a dragons fiery breath.
The second example that comes to mind, in albeit a less glamorous way, is the daughter of the black smith who forged the sword which Merlin acquired. Upon hearing Merlin's request, the daughter stole said sword from her father, despite knowing he valued it as one of the finest swords he had ever made, and delivered it without regard for consequence to Merlin for eventual use for Arthur. This willingness to disregard consequence and put others first is what propels her to the status of hero.
