In the show Merlin, I think that Merlin becomes a hero that no one really notices. Merlin was willing to do anything for a friend that he so dearly cares about. He asks for favors from people that might think that he is crazy for asking for. He goes and finds different ways of helping Arthur so that he does not die at the hands of the Black Knight. Another reason that he becomes a hero is that he does not go around bragging to people that he helped get rid of the Black Knight. I think that this show that he does not want the recognition but just wants to help those in need.
In the show Supernatural, I think that Dean Winchester becomes a hero that is more out in the open than Merlin was. Dean was willing to do just about anything to help his brother not remember the horrible ordeal that he went through when his soul was not in place. Dean was also willing to take a chance to save innocent girls from being feed to a dragon. He showed courage when fighting against the bad guys and was willing to do anything to get rid to them to protect that town.
