Nobody Who Becomes A Hero

One example of a nobody who becomes a hero is Chesley B. Sullenberger III, the US Airways Pilot who landed flight 1549 in the Hudson Bay in January of 2009.  He knew that the plane would not make it back to the airport safely and made the quick decision to land in he Hudson River in order to save the passengers lives.  Sullenberger safely landed the plane and no one suffered injury.  He even checked all corners of the plane to make sure everyone was evacuated safely before exiting the aircraft himself.  His bravery was remarkable and he now spends his time as an advocate for airline safety to ensure no injuries occur as a result of flying.

During my freshman year here at Waynesburg, I took a trip on September 11th to visit the Flight 93 Memorial.  The true definition of a nobody becoming a hero can be found in the passengers on that flights stories.  These people who were just taking your average flight to San Fransisco, were faced with the decision to sit back and watch as these hijackers directed their flight towards the US Capitol or if they would take action.  They took a vote and attempted to take the plane back over, the plane crashed in Pennsylvania and although the brave men and women died, they saved the lives of thousands in Washington, DC, and for that they will always be remembered as heroes.
