My first example of someone who became a hero is all the men and women who serve in the military. These are the people who leave everything they know behind to serve and protect our country. They give up their life to go across the country or even across the world. They do this because they want to have a better life for all those who are at home and believe in our freedom as Americans.
My second example is from Harry Potter. I believe Ron and Harry are both individuals who became heroes even though they had nothing before. The fought to protect the school they loved, the life they lived and the friends and family who supported them. I believe they are heroes for the way that their characters where portrayed and played out in the books and movies.
