Since i think a lot of people are going to use superheroes, i thought i'd use real life individuals. I got both of my examples from http://www.cracked.com/article_19766_6-nobodies-who-turned-into-superheroes-without-warning.html.
1. Wesley Autrey, a 50 year old construction worker in New York City. He was waiting on a subway platform with his kids when a man next to him started to convulse. Wesley and another person went to help but the man ended up falling onto the tracks as a train was rolling in. Without thinking Wesley jumped down to help him but since the man was still convulsing he couldnt pick him up so with quick thinking he found a trench that ran between the track and rolled the man into it and jump on top of him. Wesley didnt know if he would fit but it was the only option that came quick enough. As it turns out, they survived and Wesley was recongnized by Ellen Degenerous and awarded 10,000 dollars.
2. Guo Zhongfan was a local community officer in China when a woman dressed in her wedding dress (fiance broke off the wedding because he fell in love with someone else) climbed out of a 7th floor window of her apartment building and let go of the edge, beginning her free fall, when Guo grabbed her out of the air. The girl proceeded to fight the grip but Guo was able to get her inside.
